What is grief?

  • Grief is the normal and natural reaction to significant emotional loss of any kind.
  • Grief is the conflicting feelings caused by the end of, or change in, a familiar pattern of behavior.

Grief is the feeling of reaching out for someone who has always been there, only to find when you need them again, they are no longer there.

We can experience grief as a natural reaction to any type of loss or change including, but not limited to:

  • Death
  • Divorce
  • Retirement
  • Moving
  • Recovery from Addiction
  • Health Issues
  • Financial Challenges
  • Loss of a Pet
  • Change in Employment
  • Empty Nest

Most of the unhelpful ideas about grief can be summed up in Six Common Myths:

  • TIME HEALS ALL WOUNDS
  • GRIEVE ALONE
  • BE STRONG
  • DON’T FEEL BAD
  • REPLACE THE LOSS
  • KEEP BUSY

Many of us have heard these unhelpful ideas and taken unhelpful actions in response to them, only to find that we were still experiencing pain from the loss.  Grief recovery is about learning more helpful ideas and approaches that will enable us to complete our pain caused by loss and move forward.

What is Grief Recovery?

Grief Recovery is accomplished by discovering and completing all of the undelivered communications that accrue in relationships. We are all told ‘Let Go’ and ‘Move On’ after all types of losses, and most of us would if we knew how.

Completion of pain caused by loss is what allows us to let go and move on.

Completion can be achieved by taking a series of correct and helpful actions.

Before taking actions toward completion, we often need to explore and dismiss the myths and unhelpful actions that have made it impossible to move forward up to this point.

The Grief Recovery Method® will provide you with the correct action choices that empower you to move beyond the pain caused by loss. It is an educational program in a safe environment, where you will reflect on your beliefs about loss, explore losses that have affected your life and take new actions toward the completion of pain related to one of those losses.
